We’ve been surfing Pinterest for things to do with coconut oil. This sugar facial scrub uses coconut oil, sugar, and your favorite flavoring abstract. Thinking ahead to ideas for Christmas gifts, we chose peppermint extract, but you can use almond, vanilla, or even brandy. The results are phenomenal.

When you get cooking oil or shortening on your hands it is difficult to remove. When you first rub this coconut oil scrub onto your skin it has a similar sensation. Don’t worry that it will become greasy. Wait a few minutes for it to penetrate through your skin. In no time, your hands feel smooth without a greasy residue and the skin looks noticeably different. A few days later, my hands still felt silky smooth. Of course, your results may vary, but I prefer it to a salon manicure.

This makes a fun activity for a girl’s sleepover too. My daughter and her friends wanted to try it on their feet. If you aren’t prone to breakouts, it makes an excellent light moisturizer or facial scrub. It is so easy to make. You only need a few minutes.

How to make Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub

1/2 C.      Hearty Naturals Coconut Oil
3/4 C.      Coarse Sugar (Raw sugar is great for cleansing.)
1/2 tsp.    Flavoring Extract (We used Peppermint.)

• Place 1/2 C. Coconut Oil in microwaveable dish.
• Microwave just to warm approximately 10-15 seconds.
• Remove from microwave.
• Stir in sugar and extract.
• Let cool.
• Store in tightly sealed container or place in plastic baggies as a party favor.

  • Tip: For use as a hand or foot lotion add a few drops of red food coloring to give it a pretty pink tint.

Move over Christmas cookies, here comes Christmas scrub. This year, we’ll be making peppermint scented, coconut oil sugar scrub gifts for our friends and family. To give the gift some pizzazz, add a tag with raffia ribbon describing the many uses of the scrub. In the coming weeks, we will share many more uses for our coconut oil.
